Introduction to Creative AI Image Exploration for the Fearless Photographer

This workshop is an introduction to practical AI image generation as an inspirational and creative tool, and will provide participants with the skills to produce results that exceed mere novelty or emulation.

Participants will learn basic principles for working with AI, best practices for prompting, techniques for finding original and personal styles, and processes for achieving good print-quality results.

There will also be discussion of the how AI image creation is achieved, and the ethical and legal implications of this new frontier.


Workshop Facilitators


Peter Miller is professional filmmaker, music composer, sound designer and image artist of over 40 years experience. He has been involved with generative image creation for several decades and has been intensively working with AI imaging since 2022.

What will I do in the workshop?

The workshop will take the form of discussion and instruction, with many examples. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with their own ideas under guidance.

Please bring:

  • A laptop/tablet with wifi access
  • A Midjourney account fully working in Discord
  • some original photographic source material in jpg or png format


What are the workshop outcomes?

Participants will come away with a working knowledge of the generative AI image process, including an understanding of how generative machine learning fabricates images. They will learn strategies with which to approach AI as an original and inspirational artistic tool to create work that goes beyond mere novelty or emulation. They will acquire tips for workflow methods to enable best possible print output of their images to photo resolution. Participants will also gain an understanding of the legal and ethical implications of the use of AI, and there will be discussion about the place of AI in future artistic practice.
