Volunteers play an integral role in the everyday running of CCP, as well as providing vital support to public programs and events. They bring interest, experience and skills to the day-to-day activities of CCP, and in turn learn new skills and development opportunities and networks.
CCP offers various options for volunteering, which includes Events, Front of House, and Installation/De-installation. Our call-out system is designed in such a way that you will have the option of picking up any of these shift types, or specialising in a particular area of interest.
Casual and Event volunteer shifts are essential for the running of public programs and events. These are suited to those with an interest in event management. CCP welcomes volunteers who only have casual availability/interest, but may also recruit more regular volunteers from the pool of Casual and Event Volunteers.
Front of House Volunteers provide essential customer service to gallery visitors and undertake regular shifts once per week throughout the exhibition program calendar. Front of House Volunteers have a more involved role within CCP, and may be asked to stay informed on the current or upcoming programming in the gallery. The Front of House positions is suited to those with an interest in administration, customer service and arts management. These shifts are casually available, but it’s also a great opportunity to pick up a regular shift with us, perhaps coming in once every week or fortnight.
Installation/De-installation volunteer shifts involve assisting artists, curators, external contractors and CCP staff in the de/installation of exhibitions in the gallery by undertaking physical work and providing administration support from time to time. These are suited to those with an interest in the physical realisation of exhibitions. CCP greatly appreciates the help of volunteers with installation and artwork handling experience, but also encourages assistance from volunteers who wish to gain experience in installation.
All new volunteers will be trained in the appropriate role during their first shift.
Internships may be offered to regular volunteers for specific CCP projects, exhibitions and awards. Internships provide an opportunity for volunteers to work closely with CCP staff members, to be trained in specific skills and to take responsibility for the organisation and completion of projects.
Volunteers are managed by CCP’s Gallery Manager. CCP strives to match volunteers with tasks and roles which best suit their abilities and interests, and therefore encourages volunteers to inform the Gallery Manager of the particular areas in which they want to volunteer.
CCP Volunteer applications are accepted throughout the year and remain active in the database for two years. CCP regrets that there may not be opportunities for all applicants.
Please note; Volunteer applications are accepted from individuals aged 18 and over.
