“I visited my ancestral island of Mer in the Torres Strait. It was a transformative experience that was shared between myself and my cousins from the moment we landed on the tarmac. My Aunty was crying, we were finally home. I sat with my Ama, in our village of Las, as she explained to me the names of the tides. And that one day they will bring us all back home again. How do I hold a place, when a place holds all the roots of my being? How do I exist somewhere else, when all that I am is back there?
This series of works were born out of the longing to return to Mer.”
