Presented in partnership with Perimeter Books, and supported by the Goethe-Institut, Hahnemuhle and Spicers.
This exhibition celebrates the world-renowned contemporary photographic and art publisher Spector Books, featuring hundreds of their publications, and many rare and out-of-print photography books.
Jan Wenzel (co-Founder of Spector Books) will be conducting a range of public programs in Melbourne during the exhibition.
Spector Books is internationally renowned for its innovative approach to the medium of the book. In this exhibition the publisher will present a wide selection of its photobooks, demonstrating how the interplay of image and text and the design and materiality of the volume creates vibrant possibilities for the printed book in the digital age.
Spector Books’ publishing practice is settled squarely in the intersection of art, theory, and design. ‘Landscapes of Photobooks’ will explore the possibilities offered by an active exchange between all parties involved in the book production process: artists, authors, book designers, lithographers, printers and bookbinders. Through this exhibition you’ll discover innovative approaches to the medium, and see Spector’s considered and consistent interplay between the content, design, and materiality of a book.
