Taking it Blak | Performances

Please join us for an all-female afternoon of Indigenous music and performance curated by Dani Sib, to celebrate the final day of our current exhibitions.
Created in association with the exhibition Taking it Blak by Moorina Bonini and Pierra Van Sparkes, this program will feature performances by Maylene Slater-
ABOUT DANI SIB
Originally from Lombadina, WA, Dani Sib is a proud Baad and Yawuru woman. Now based in Naarm, Sib hopes to inspire the younger generation of First Nations people through her music. She has participated in the Multicultural Arts Victoria Visible mentorship program and worked closely with well-known Melbourne folk/pop singer-songwriter Gossling. In 2018 Sib was awarded the Darebin Music Feast’s Event Producer Mentorship program ‘AMPLIFY’, and under the mentorship of Jessie Lloyd curated Jirrmujina Liyan (songs for spirit), featuring a diverse line-up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

ABOUT SAVANNA KRÜGER
Savanna Krüger is a proud Wotjobaluk and South Sea islander woman born and raised in the Indigenous arts community in Naarm. Influenced by all her (strong, deadly, loud, complicated) Arty Aunties™, Savanna is passionate about black women’s expression through visual and performing arts, writing and music.

ABOUT MAYLENE SLATER-BURNS
Maylene Slater-Burns is a singer songwriter from Melbourne, living on Kulin Lands. Maylene writes to inspire conversations about identity and vulnerability. Her soft ballads are haunting, uplifting and thought provoking. Through her parents, Maylene is a part of the Kamilaroi, Wiradjuri, Kuku Djungan and Gangalidda Aboriginal Nations. Maylene is a proud activist for Aboriginal self-determination and loudly calls for federal government reform over the treatment of First Nations Peoples in Australia.

CCP acknowledges that we meet and work on what always was and always will be the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, as well as to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the wider Melbourne community and beyond. Indigenous sovereignty has never been ceded.
