Collage and Photography

In partnership with

  • Melbourne Collage Assembly

Building on the themes of the current CCP exhibition States of Disruption, join founding members of the Melbourne Collage Assembly, Kieran Madden & Simone Esterhuizen for this hands-on 3 hour photo-collage workshop.

The workshop will focus on two thematics (identity/interior & exterior), and will allow participants to work and engage with our relationship with objects, disruption, layering, slicing, concealing and revealing in hands on and outcome-driven workshop. Each participant will produce 1-2 collages, and will also be provided with a scan of their finished piece/s to take home (in addition to their physical work).

Kieran and Simone will also provide some brief contexts, collage themes, artists, techniques and one-to-one guidance throughout the session. All participants will get a cutting mat, scalpel, glue stick to use, and to take home with them at the end of the workshop (included in workshop fee).

Melbourne Collage Assembly are a group of 9 artists who all use collage based techniques in their art practice. Working with analogue, digital, mixed media and assemblage, they each apply different approaches to collage, providing a unique insight into contemporary collage and the possibilities of the medium.

Kieran Madden is an artist whose practice focuses on analogue collage. His work ranges from skewed visual puns to tableaux with social and political themes.

Simone Esterhuizen works in analogue, digital and mixed media collage. Materials are sliced, torn, concealed or revealed to create new realities from existing imagery.

Prior to the workshop, participants will receive further information about the thematics, and what to bring along on the day.
