Please join us for the opening of We Were Just Little Boys – and the launch of the accompanying book by Tace Stevens, published by Tall Poppy Press.
The launch event will commence at 2pm on August 30th Agency Projects, 47 Easey St, Collingwood, Melbourne. The launch will feature an in-person Q&A with Tace Stevens and Leila Gurruwiwi.
The book will be for sale at the event.
This project is being exhibited for the first time, in its entirety, presented by the Centre for Contemporary Photography in partnership with Agency Projects.

Building on Tace Stevens’ commissioned series, We Were Just Little Boys tells the story of the Survivors of Kinchela Boys Home. With written contributions from surviving Uncles, and writing from the CEO of the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation, this book is collaborative, grief-filled and advocates for the need for deep healing.
Tace was the winner of the Tall Poppy Press Open Call in 2024.
The book was made possible with support from Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation, Magnum Foundation and the World Monuments Fund.
50% of the sale price is paid to the Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Home Corporation.

Tace Stevens is a Noongar and Spinifex visual storyteller based in Perth, Western Australia. She is a self-taught documentary photographer with a film degree from the Australian Film and Television Radio School. With a background in community development, story sovereignty and authenticity are integral to her practice.
