Artist Talk & Book Launch with James Tylor 

Join James Tylor and Curator Leigh Robb for a floor talk on Saturday, 23 September at 2pm. The exhibition publication ‘Turrangka…in the shadows’, will be launched as part of this event. Featuring contributions by Tylor, Robb, Coby Edgar, Geoffrey Batchen and Caitlin Eyre, this publication explores Tylor’s expansive practice which considers histories of colonisation and its profound impact on Indigenous cultures, particularly the Kaurna people of South Australia.

‘Turrangka…in the shadows’ surveys a decade of practice, including daguerreotypes, digital photographic series, handmade Kaurna cultural objects, and furniture. The title points to the relationship between light and shadow in photography. As well as shadow, the Kaurna word ‘turra’ also translates to reflection, image, and mirror. It evokes the concept of working in the shadows and shining a light on untold histories.
