The recent decisions by Federal and State funding bodies has not only lead to the CCP having to depart its current premises immediately, it has also sadly meant that we no longer have the funds to support our small team of three staff. As a result we have had to say goodbye to our Curator Catlin Langford (who joined us in October 2022), and our Gallery Manager Tyler Meredith (who joined us in January 2023). Both Catlin and Tyler have had a profound impact on CCP in their short time with us, their commitment to the organisation and to the wider community in Melbourne, and Australia has been remarkable. Their impact has been significant. The decision to part ways with Catlin and Tyler has been one taken out of necessity, and one enforced by the lack of engagement from Government arts agencies that we depend on for ongoing financial support. We wish them well in their next roles.
Both Creative Australia and Creative Victoria were made fully aware before they took these decisions that a removal of multi-year funding support would lead directly to the loss of staff and closure of our current premises.
CCP Director Daniel Boetker-Smith remains the only member of staff for the time being.
We are also very sad to be saying goodbye to our 2024 Creative Residents, who were part of our second cohort of emerging and established photographers working out of CCP’s office, and being mentored by CCP Curator Catlin Langford – they were: Meg De Young, Jo Duck, Oliver Foster, Gabrielle Hall-Lomax, Kyle Archie Knight, Kelvin Lau, Finn Goldstraw & Ming Liew. We also wish them well on their future endeavours.
