Close Reading Club – April 2019

Upcoming CCP-curated exhibition Image Reader considers how we visually read, internalise, process or decode the images that circulate around us. Engaging with four artists who destabilise a linear reading of the image—Guy Grabowsky, Nina Gilbert, Ry Haskings and Eliza Hutchison—Image Reader explores the power photography has to visually communicate, and subconsciously influence our reading of the world.

For this reason, it feels like a natural fit to pair Image Reader with an iteration of the Close Reading Club (CRC). The CRC gives Members the opportunity to present and participate in a dialogue around photography in a friendly, supportive and enquiring environment. Members are invited to select a favourite photograph, be it their own, another photographer’s, or one from CCP’s current exhibitions, to discuss with the group. We extend this invitation to be inclusive of all Members, with no experience or expertise necessary.

CCP hopes this will provide Members a place to share and discover spectacular, surprising, impactful and complex images and interpretations alongside like-minded colleagues. The CRC is a space for conversation and discourse in a comfortable, intimate setting.

If you would like to contribute an image to the CRC for our discussion, please register via by Sunday the 21st of April. Once we have confirmed your place we will request you bring an image in either original copy, printed out, or emailed through in jpeg format to by Friday the 26th of April. Places to present are limited, so register your interest quickly!

We welcome Members to attend as the audience, and feel free to bring a friend!

Members free, friends gold coin donation.

RSVP please. Tea and coffee provided.
