Produced while in residence at Jeleni Studios Prague in 2001, Green took up the offer of a night's accommodation in a Baroque mansion, prompting this particular body of work. Individually, the photographs could be stills from a film, however viewed together, they offer a seductive narrative rich in gothic noir overtones, complete with a dramatic denouement. Works From the Jeleni Studio Residency connects with Green's larger practice of examining the constructs of femininity, particularly in relation to the fallen woman within feminist and historical ideology. Here the woman is both literally and metaphorically falling, or rather she has fallen, hung by her own or someone else's hand. She is both Romantic heroine and victim of desire.
