Continuing to explore the underlying fears and anxieties that permeate our everyday experience, Canberra-based artist Samantha Small diverts her gaze from the private interior to a space similarly laden with psychological vice — the waiting room. In the intermediary zone of the waiting room our attention to time is painfully exaggerated by our inability to control time. Like the forms that inhabit the submerged interiors in Wait not want, time passes indefinitely, each moment suspended in anticipation of the next. The work in this exhibition invites the viewer through the looking glass into the saturated interior of the fish tank. The rooms constructed inside, imbued with a sense of memory and loss, threaten to collapse as past merges with present.
