Margit Brünner's video works record her reaction to the spaces and environments around her. Her actions are not pre-planned or mediated instead they are unpredictable and arise spontaneously in any situation with which she is presented. Every manifestation is evoked unintentionally from a given situation. Brünner regards every site as an independent living system, each person playing their part in the co-production of the atmosphere and environment. Brünner's background in modern dance and performance is evident throughout her work. She applies this performative intervention as a means of observing this phenomenon. Her presence, which varies between discreet attendance and intensive action, pushes the boundaries of accepted norms and social etiquette.
'I' is a place of transition, space moving through.
A transient body, occupied by thoughts.
'Nothing' is also made from feelings - empty is endless,
remembering all, producing all.
Here 'I' walk. Noticing fragments only.
It simply happens, that I brush beings, deliberately or not.
If 'I' notice space, space communicates with me.
'I' can sense space, if 'I' dissolves.
Space produces us. 'I' is embedded within space.
Sensing works only, if 'I' steps aside and watches.
Time can be paralysed. Now is extending.
The body is a cover, a section of space.
It can behave either transparently or densely.
Emotions are not mine.
'I' catches them by chance, perhaps on purpose.
'I' owns them to be.
Sometimes they catch me.
All that is felt is objective. Feelings exist without me.
Quality is distance from love.
All is hidden in Now. 'I' disappears if connecting with space.
My attention magnetizes the void. 'I' wait until tempers are revealing
and produce pictures afterwards.
When 'I' wish to touch space, time slips - Now is always here.
Time exists only as elastic idea.
Once not being here is interrupted, Now unfolds
and time is slipping again.
Space is unknown ground,
Fast, that the body remembers.
