Jan Nelson's mixed media installation, Studio Practice, includes an array of objects, video projections and photographs featuring herself and various others walking, jumping, crawling, crashing, lying down and performing judo. Through these everyday, routine actions and reactions, Nelson 'examines physical and psychological responses to simple situations and sets out to parody both traditional and personal behaviour'. The surveyed behavioural patterns occur both on the street and inside the studio. Here, Nelson documents an art practice, asking how exactly is art made? How are both art and the artist produced? Studio Practice: Part 1 features the video 'Anticipating Transcendence', produced and exhibited in Paris in 1996. Part 2 is on display concurrently at Robert Lindsay Gallery, Melbourne
