"The title of Parting Embrace is not to be taken at face value. Parting is the story of a young boy's awakening, a sexual awakening, crudely evoked through the incorporation of pornographic imagery. Embrace, by contrast, offers a softer rendition. Far from evoking the subjectivity or the horror of the young boy, the more diffused imagery filters sexual experience through myth and fantasy, using in place of hard-core porn imagery, projections of Canova's Cupid and Psyche... In a sense, anyone who has been abused, psychically, physically, sexually, inhabits the elliptical space between Parting and Embrace. ... Parting Embrace is about memory, the tricks of memory, the way it generates fantasy to cover over painful truths, allowing the full force of traumatic events to emerge only in fragments."
