The series Pale Worlds, depicts precise moments when someone attempts to undermine the structure of the everyday. This involves theatrical performances placed within familiar urban environments. In each performance, ordinary gestures are abstracted and everyday actions become isolated from their functional purpose. Various objects are examined, assembled, rearranged and manipulated into play; the props of a forgotten ritual. My intention is to explore the ritualistic tendencies in people, where such tendencies take them to the repressed or absurd. This is in reaction to a loss of ritual and wonder in contemporary life. It is an exploration of what structures daily existence, and investigates how the structures we impose upon our lives manifest unconscious needs and desires.
