French Pup is a hybrid of performance, photography, installation and video practices incorporating audience interaction. The exhibition's central interest lies in its investigation of the performance genre and the manipulation of space.
French Pup is a continuation of Benfield's interest in creating 'live' and recorded performances which reference elements of performance art from history, contemporary culture, fashion and burlesque comedy forms. The work is characterised by its incorporation of buffoonery, parody, clunkiness, 60s and 70s performance art, task-orientated performance and the absurdities of sensational endurance performance.
A French Pup/Live Action took place on the opening night.
