In Figuratively Speaking seven artists explore themes of the body as a medium for language across lens-based media. Looking at form and gesture, the body as a tool for expression, and the historical relation between performance and the camera, the exhibition investigates the ways in which contemporary artists draw on the body as a linguistic and legible device. Whether as archival document, a call to action, a tool for translation, or as a mode of language itself, Figuratively Speaking considers how our bodies communicate without words.
