The familiar becomes unfamiliar as Creighton's voyeuristic images transform our comprehension of surroundings from passive to analytical. The eight photographic panels which make up Familiar Surroundings? allow the viewer to move through the artist's own house without regard to privacy. These images are intended to engender within viewers a recognition of the type of space which they themselves inhabit. Amid this familiarity, however, Creighton's images also create a feeling of unease - suggesting a sense of alienation and dislocation from the spaces in which we exist.
