Authority explores today's manifestations of status, presenting a photo-based installation spotlighting fashion. Papapetrou contrasts people wearing designer T-shirts with aristocratic portraits taken from art history. The uncanny convergence in the two kinds of image suggests that elements of secular worship are inherent in the contemporary longing for status and adoration of glamour. Fashion designers and their logos have become the new majesty. But what happens when you and your friends are implicated in the aspiration to such outdated ideology? The people who wear the ubiquitous logos in this exhibition are not portrayed as victims but the new vassals, proud followers of a high born idea: they translate the exclusive paradigms of loyalty for a single monarch to an allegiance to fashion itself.
