CCP presented its thirteenth annual photography workshop for youth in the City of Yarra. The Rotary Youth Arts Project (RYAP) is a Community Outreach Project in collaboration with Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP), Dancehouse and supported by the City of Yarra, Ilford, Colour Factory and Rotary Clubs of Richmond, Collingwood, Fitzroy and Brunswick.
Young people studying at Collingwood College were invited to participate in a nine-week photography course at CCP presented by fine art photographer and educator Domas Rukas.
Over the course of this year’s RYAP project, the students were exposed to a vast range of photographic, historic and artistic experiences. From the chambers of the Governors house to the workshops of the Camera Clinic. From Ugandan press photography to the exploration of personal memories. They have learned how to master natural light, how to compose in a visually engaging way, and how to capture moments that otherwise would have been lost. This year’s students documented their experiences in their own chosen style and pace. Over time, the students grew together and through this project were able to map themselves in the present moment. They have presented snippets of their time filled with joy, curiosity and wonder.
This course resulted in an informal paste up exhibition on Kerr Street in Fitzroy and an exhibition at Fitzroy Town Hall, and was documented through tumblr.
