Erik Hanson, Micah Lexier & Diana Lopez
Dumb
Curated by Mathew Jones, Dumb features work by Erik Hanson (USA), Micah Lexier (Canada) and Diana Lopez (Venezuela). Micah Lexier presents his well known 'A Portrait of David', consisting of 75 images of men named David aged between 1 and 75 (the average male life expectancy). These have been collected arbitrarily through advertisements placed in newspapers. Diana Lopez explores/exploits the roles of child and adult by employing children between the ages of five and nine to take photographs using cheap instamatic cameras. While Lopez provides the film and processing, exactly who is playing with who remains unclear. Erik Hanson photographs intangible subjects such music, perfumes and body odours. In Dumb he presents a series of black and white images which nominally re-record various David Bowie LPs transposing an aural recording for a visual one. In all works the conventional documentary potentials of the photographic medium is clearly askew.
Presented with the assistance of the Canadian Consulate General and Canadian Airlines.
